Welcome, and Thank you....

for choosing me as your Certified Master Inspector CMI®

My name is Mike A. Castro CMI® I was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, that is to say Lorain and purchased from my parents the home I grew up in, where I currently reside. I have been involved in real-estate for most of my adult life. Since 1997, my wife and I own and managed a Rental Company. This is where my Home Inspection knowledge started.
I realized early in our rental home purchases, the early 1990's, that my wife and I were at times being duped with our home purchases, either by dishonest sellers or people who just did their own work without a clue how to do the work correctly
As a Home buyer, Isuffered the consequences of costly repairs. (A
t that time I did not know about Home Inspectors or I probably would have hired one). So my wife and I decided that in order to solve that problem, I would learn how to inspect my own homes and we would buy distress homes only and I will remodel them from the ground up. So thats what I started to do, work at Ford and remodel our rental homes, when I say remodel, I mean remodel, I do most of my own work, wiring, plumbing, furnace, hot water install, drywall, flooring, bathroom and kitchens, windows, doors, etc. In order to do this, I have to be update in my building codes. I am not code certified, nor have I ever been to any type of code classes, I am self-taught and have studied many code books. However, after dealing with many different city inspectors I have become pretty good with the codes. (I do not quote codes in my reports)
My Home Inspection career sort of began in 2004, when because of my construction knowledge and my eye for detail, my friends and family where asking me to inspect property they where looking at purchasing. In early 2004, Ford allowed me the ability to go to Hondros College to take classes to be a real estate agent. I took the classes not to be an agent, (I am not a Real Estate agent) but to understand their thinking. I lost many deals because the agent could not grasp creative financing that benefited both buyer & seller. That is where I learned that they had home inspection and appraisal classes you can take to be certified in those fields. In late 2006, facing financial troubles, Ford arranged for an education buyout, where Ford would pay for an employee's education to reintroduce them to the work place. With the advice of a friend, who had been using me to inspect homes since 2004, who told me with my knowledge of homes and proper training I could a be very good Home Inspector and with my wife's permission, I left Ford and started attending Hondros College to become a Certified Home Inspector. Then I went back to college to become a Master Home Inspector after that I attended Hondros College to become a Certified Appraiser. That appraisal knowledge gives me a better understanding of the market area of the homes I inspect and how it should be constructed. Since then I have been continuously educating myself in the Home Inspection field.
I joined InterN.A.C.H.I. (International National Association of Certified Home Inspectors) A home inspection organization that keeps me up to date with my education, by requiring a certain amount of continues education every year and many other requiments designed to help me be the Best Certified Master Inspector CMI® in Northeast Ohio. (You can learn more about them by clicking on "About N.A.C.H.I. tab).
I Use The Lastest Equipment: As can be seen from the pictures throughout my webpage I use some very sophisticated equipment to help me do a very thorough Home Inspection. This is important  because as I truly say"not all Home Inspectors are created equal." We all use different types of equipment and some inspectors use not so advance equipment.
Is the equipment used by inspectors important
? See The difference.
How Long Should The Inspection Take? To be honest, that depends on many factors, the size of the house, how many questions are asked, how detailed problems have to be explained, sometimes a problem arises that requires extra time to figure it out, and how many services are involved. For the most part an average size home takes about 4-6hrs. (Please Beware, with all the free services that go with your Home Inspection, it does take a while to complete. "Excellent Service Takes Time") I once had a young lady ask me so many questions, that a small bungalow style home took us over 8 hrs. It was her first home and she had my undivided attention. I only do one Inspection a day, Early in the morning until I get Home.
What Type Of Report Should You Expect? My report is very easy to read with plenty of pictures to help you better understand your new home. I do not use one of those check list received on sight reports. They tend not to explain things thoroughly to you. I use a Narrative/Checklist type report which I e-mail to you within 24-48 hrs. (Inspection Report)
What Type Of Business Do I Get? I mostly do referrer type inspections from real-estate agents and mortgage companies that use me, past clients refer me. I also do what I call second opinion inspections, it does not happen often but more often than I think it should, that is, redoing a Home Inspection that another home inspector just did.
VA Department: I do handicap code inspections for the VA dept. making sure that new build construction, remodels, and additions for the Handicap Veterans meets or exceeds VA code standards.
What Sets Me Apart From Other Home Inspectors? Like other inspectors I am very well educated in my field, I have lots of experience. Unlike some Home Inspectors, I have the latest tools to do the job correctly."But most importantly I care" as you just read about me, you see that I have been there, done that, and through the process of my Rental business and dealing with not-so honest sellers through the years and helping friends and family not to become a victim like I was. My Home Inspection business, known as "Honest&Detail"® was created. (Honest&Detail was the creation of my daughter Rita Castro). (Special Thanks)
